Are you looking for romance books without spice? Me too! I may write young adult fantasy, but I love reading from many genres. In the last year, I’ve read science fiction, urban fantasy, self-help, women’s fiction, novella, and lots of romance. I’ve stumbled across many fabulous romance books without spice, and I thought you might like them, too!
I miss the good ol’ days of 2000s-era romcoms, but lately, I’ve been able to fulfill that longing with these no-spice romance novels. These rom-coms and romances are a great alternative!
I’m pretty picky about the content of a romance novel, so you can consider the novels listed on this page as closed-door, clean, sweet, no-spice, or whatever you like to call books without all the spicy scenes.
Where to find romance books without spice
To find books without spice, you can try searching online or on Amazon using the terms “closed door romcom,” “closed door romance,” “sweet romance books,” “clean romance books,” etc. But be aware that some books Amazon offers up are not necessarily no-spice. To be sure, you can always find the book on Goodreads on a web browser and see if readers tagged it as “no-spice” or “clean.” But if you want a few suggestions to get you started, here are a few I found. Some I’ve read, and some I have not.

Courtney Walsh
Courtney Walsh is one of my absolute favorites! I highly recommend her novels if you’re looking for a no-spice romance! She’s written more than books, several of which are holiday-themed. Her bio says, “She writes small-town romance and women’s fiction…Courtney is a Carol award winner and Christy Award finalist…” I’ve loved all her books I’ve read so far.

Emma St. Clair
Another no-spice author who always pops when I look for clean romcom books is Emma St. Clair. Here’s what her author bio says: “Emma St. Clair is a USA Today Bestselling Author who loves sassy heroines, witty banter, and love stories with heart and humor.” Here are a few of her books, though she has many more.
Melanie Jacobson
Melanie Jacobson‘s bio says she’s “an avid reader, amateur cook, and champion shopper. She consumes astonishing amounts of chocolate, chick flicks, and romance novels.” Scrooge and the Girls Next Door is one of my favorite books on this page!
Rachel John
Next is Rachel John. Her bio says, “Rachel John loves to read anything with romance or humor, and thinks the best books should combine the two.” I read her books called I Hated You First and Engaging Mr. Darcy. Both were fun reads. Next up I hope to read her series of clean romcoms that are inspired by Jane Austen novels!
Savannah Scott
“Savannah Scott loves writing happily-ever-after romcoms with scenes where kisses make you melt. Her characters feel like long-lost friends, and the settings make you want to take off on a road trip to visit.” I haven’t tried any of hers yet, but I hope to soon!
Carina Taylor
“USA Today Bestselling author Carina Taylor loves to write witty romantic comedies that bring a smile to your face,” reads a quote from her bio. I haven’t tried any of hers yet, but I hope to soon!
